The Aboriginal Fishery Strategy (AFS) program started after the Sparrow Decision in 1992. This decision reaffirmed the Aboriginal Right to fish for food, social and ceremonial purposes. AFS is to provide for the orderly management, protection and enhancement of fisheries resources and fish habitat in the area with particular emphasis on the Food, Social and Ceremonial Fishery.
