on or off island.
Headstart
The Headstart program was created to help keep our children
healthy in mind and spirit. The program aims to keep native
traditions and the Mi'kmaq language alive. The Headstart program
was opened in fall of 1999 and is currently in it's first year.
Social Development
Family Violence
Family Violence is a problem of concern to all family members
of society. To eliminate it from society, it must be recognized
that everyone has a role to play. We're trying to make a difference
by increasing public awareness, and coordinating programs that
relate to Family Violence issues.
Youth Employment Strategies
Youth Employment Strategies is a program to assist aboriginal
people with their job search. The program targets people between
the age of 15 to 30. Information sessions with potential employers
are held every Thursday evening at 5:00pm at the CAP site. The
intent of these information sessions are not only to introduce
young people to potential employers, but also to educate them
on a variety of career choices in hopes of providing motivation.
Some presenters have been the RCMP and the Canadian Military.
